SCHIZOPHRENIA

A long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behaviour, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.

OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), and behaviors that drive them to do something over and over (compulsions). Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts.

ANXIETY

A feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. People with anxiety feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed. As soon as one anxious thought is resolved, another may appear about a different issue.

ADDICTION

Drug Addiction is a disease that affects your brain. It means you can't stop abusing substances, even when they cause financial, emotional, and health related problems for you or your loved ones. The urge to get and use drugs can fill up every minute of the day.

PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events. Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks, and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt. They may also have problems sleeping, such as insomnia, and find concentrating difficult.

DYSMORPHIA

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. The person affected often imagines and exaggerates these flaws.

Paranoia

A mental condition characterized by delusions of persecution, unwarranted jealousy, or exaggerated self-importance, typically worked into an organized system. It may be caused by chronic personality disorder, drug abuse, or other conditions such as schizophrenia.

DEPRESSION

A mental disorder which can affect you in a variety of ways, mental and physical. They range from lasting feelings of unhappiness and hopelessness, to losing interest in the things you used to enjoy and feeling very tearful. Physical symptoms include feeling constantly tired, sleeping badly, having no appetite, and various aches and pains.

SAD

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression associated with late autumn and winter and thought to be caused by a lack of light. A few people with SAD may have symptoms during the summer and feel better during the winter.

LONELINESS

Sadness caused by a lack of friends or company. Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation – and it can have a serious effect on health.

Memetal Health was designed and conceived in the mind of Oliwia Widuto in 2018. The project began as a series of icons for Interaction Design at the School of Art in Belfast.

This website aims to raise mental health awareness among Generation Z by explaining common dysfunctions in the form of memes.
